Powerbank

July 2021

In the event of a power outage, Powerbank provides hours of back-up battery power for Edge Controller, Control Modules, and more. It mates effortlessly with the Edge Controller for a unified stackable design and includes additional, uninterrupted power for up to five USB-C devices and two 12V wired devices.

Sub-team collaborators: Kevin Hoffman, Andy Rubin, Chris Coley, Farzin Dehmoubed.

The back-side celebrates the adaptability and labeling of connection methods possible in the Powerbank.

The yellow detailing for power in-out serves as a visual communicator that this is where a 100W USBC cable needs to be connected from the Powerbank to the Edge Controller, or any 100W PD device. We also incorporated 5 LED indicators on the front-side for battery capacity and charge status.

The power bank holds ALOT of power (144 Wh LiOn battery with an internal power source), in a small form factor. A combination that needs thermal venting, which inevitably lead to industrial design constraints of accommodating a heat sync, fan, and large venting holes to ensure efficient air flow.
