CHIME

August 2022

Chime is the voice and ears of a building, transforming how you interact with spaces.

Sub-team collaborators: Kevin Hoffman, Andy Rubin, Cody Proksa, Chris Coley, Farzin Dehmoubed.

With Chime you can receive audio notifications for activities such as doorbell presses and sensor alerts.

Using AI audio detection it can also identify any sound in your environment like glass breaking, a baby crying, and beyond. Plus, enabling voice controlled integration you can effortlessly control and monitor your environment using just your voice, through any preferred third-party technologies.

Chimes can be populated throughout a building with two power options: Plug it directly to a power outlet, or place it on a surface powered via USBC.

This adaptability drove an industrial design size constraint, aligning to a 6 microphone array with beam-forming (enabling horizontal or vertical orientation), an internal power source, international plugs, and a 110 dB @ 10 cm speaker.

Chime Industrial Design intent lies within a honest, monolithic design language. Its minimalistic perforated design visually communicates as a speaker, and cleverly integrates a color LED interface, silently communicating updates like connection status, outside doorbell activity, mute status, etc.
